Police cars have to be able to drive pretty darn fast. Whether they are responding to an incident or need to chase down some bad guys, police officers need a car that will help them serve and protect in as timely a manner as possible. Many squads across the country rely on the powerful vehicles that you'll find in our showroom, and one of the newest crime-fighting cars is the new 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit. It's so fast that it just set a record for the fastest official lap ever completed at Grattan Raceway by an AWD cruiser.
Every year, the Michigan State Police holds police car trials to help evaluate the top cruisers in the country. The track is a tough one, and is 2 miles in length. The Dodge Charger Pursuit completed the course in just 1:33.85 minutes, which was also very close to crushing the rear-wheel drive record.
The experts believe that this course near Grand Rapids creates the ideal conditions for testing a car's true metal. If it has any issues, they'll definitely show themselves at the end of this 2 miles track, and the Dodge Charger Pursuit shined.
At the trial, they are also looking at its acceleration and braking capability, and the car's features could handle the twists and turns of the course with ease. Boasting both intelligent traction control, best-in-class braking, and a 370-hp engine, this model didn't have a single issue.
The Dodge Charger Pursuit is also relatively efficient, getting up to 25 miles per gallon (as estimated by the EPA), while still having the power to go from zero to sixty in less than 6 seconds.
