Green Car Journal even named the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4xe as the ‘2021 Green SUV of the Year’ due to its electrified capabilities. First up in new technology included would be the battery included in this Hybrid Jeep Wrangler, making this Jeep a PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle), with a gas engine and powerful electric motor. This opens up a whole new range of possibilities when it comes to exploring off-road. The engine that this innovative new model includes is a 2.0L I4 DHOC direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine that packs an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

Jeep has been releasing new innovation in some of the other Wranglers that they’ve been releasing recently, shying away from the standard V6 engine available in most recent models to include the 4xe’s 4-cylinder engine, as well as a diesel V-6, and the new Jeep Wrangler SRT Rubicon 392 with a 6.4L V-8 under the hood. The 4xe fits seamlessly into this new lineup, while fulfilling the customer demand for more options when it comes to electrified vehicles.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4xe features a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which is still similar to other Wrangler Models. The engine is up front, sending power to the transmission, and then through the transfer case. From there, the power is split between the axles in front and back, for a conventional 4x4 driveline set up. But, there’s new components here that haven’t been seen before in previous Wranglers, including the pair of electric motors. One is built into the 8-speed automatic transmission, and the other is attached to the engine directly. The front motor setup is like an electric supercharger, and is also set up for regenerative charging while braking to extend how long you can stay out adventuring in your new Hybrid Jeep.

One of the more practical aspects of buying the new Wrangler Unlimited 4xe would be cost, but don’t forget the Federal tax credits for hybrid vehicles! That, in tandem with Lewis pricing, means that this innovative new technology is affordable and accessible to the Jeep enthusiast. The Plug-in Electric Drive vehicle tax credit provides an income tax credit of $7500 for the purchase or lease of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe, in any of the available trim levels: the Sahara 4xe, the Rubicon 4xe, and the High Altitude 4xe.
