The Lewis Family has been a part of the Northwest Arkansas community for a long time. In fact, this is the year that Lewis Automotive Group is celebrating its 75th Anniversary of being in business and helping people in the NWA area find their perfect vehicle. Since this is such a momentous occasion, we figured we’d share some of the history of the Lewis family here on the Lewis Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM blog, as well as some of the ways we’re celebrating with our customers!
In 1946 Herb "Buck" Lewis, a banker at First National Bank in Fayetteville, chose to make a business speculation. He bought a Ford store off of Mountain Street, close to the Fayetteville square. The initial inventory was a whopping six vehicles. Four generations later, the Lewis family is still sticking to the qualities and standards their family business was established upon.
In 1969 the Lewis' made the risky decision to move the store to North College Avenue. At that point, it was viewed as "in the country" so the process was somewhat daunting. The next year, the Northwest Arkansas Mall was built and opened, carrying traffic and customers to a similar part of town as the Lewis Ford Store.
Tommy and Tim Lewis extended the dealerships to five locations to more readily serve Northwest Arkansas. The stores consistently strive to keep over 1,000 vehicles in stock to address each customer’s specific vehicle need. The Lewis Automotive Family is also regularly and intentionally engaged with different associations, groups, causes and charities that give back into the community. Albeit the stock has changed fundamentally since 1946, the qualities of the Lewis Automotive family stay unchanged.
